For months I have been writing about ADHD and how CBT for ADHD can help you understand your brain and find ways to change your lifestyle to navigate your day to day better. Heck, you may have even been inspired to plan a project that you have been putting off and are working toward that goal.
CBT for ADHD is a starting point in your approach to life. It is not a one size fits all solution, but it does inspire you to figure out what works for you (and what doesn’t). As we wrap the sessions up, we use the twelfth session to evaluate your progress, your current life status, and identify your future needs.
Once we have talked about your future needs, we will create a plan to be sure those needs are met. If we have learned anything in this group remember, if it’s not in the planner, then it doesn’t exist.
Because folks with ADHD can be bad historians, we also take an assessment or two at the end. You compare your scores from the beginning of the group to the end to see where you have improved, stayed the same, or could use some extra support.
It is important to not fall into the comparison trap. It may seem that other folks on this journey are doing SO MUCH BETTER than you are. Or maybe you feel like a shining star and everyone else is a loser. Remember this: We all started in a different place, we all responded to the sessions differently, and we are all at different stages in respect to our goals. Regardless of your status, you showed up, you were committed, and you are different now than when you started.
Continued Growth After the Conclusion of the Course
Individual Therapy
During the group you may have noted that there is some other stuff that has come up. You might need extra support to continue practicing the skills that were taught. Given that ADHD rarely travels alone, you may feel more prepared to tackle depression, anxiety, or trauma that has been tagging along. If this is the case, we can continue to work together in an individual format. The great thing is that I will be there to support you in implementing the skills that you have learned while navigating that other stuff. That will be hard, and I am by your side.
Coaching
We learned that accountability is crucial in keeping momentum on projects. If you are having trouble finding that accountability from your support group, I can help with that too. We can brainstorm other avenues to find accountability, or we can continue to meet to maintain your progress. We can use our sessions to identify specific goals and troubleshoot when you get stuck.
Future Groups
If you liked this group and want to do it again. We can do that too. Repetition helps rehearse the information and make it more of a habit. You might hear something different the next time around because of what you are bringing to the table or because of the new members you will meet.
There are also options for other group therapies that help you address other concerns and give you the space to learn about other parts of your amazing mind. Take a look at Shelf Care and my new group coming soon “Unpacking Your Baggage: A Lighthearted Guide to Emotional Wellbeing”
